Setting Up a Paint Station for Model Railway Projects
A well-organised workspace is key to achieving precise and professional paintwork on your model railway. A modular paint station helps keep your workspace tidy, ensuring easy access to brushes, paints, and essential tools. With dedicated compartments, you can store everything in one place, reducing clutter and improving efficiency.
WWScenics offers a range of storage solutions designed specifically for model railway painting. These stations provide ample space for paints and accessories, allowing you to focus on creating realistic railway colours and scenery.
Choosing the Right Brushes for Model Railway Detailing
Selecting the correct brushes is essential for achieving clean, sharp details and smooth paint application. Here are some must-have brushes:
Detail Brushes – Ideal for fine lines, lettering, and small-scale touch-ups.
Flat Brushes – Perfect for applying base coats evenly and covering larger surfaces.
Dry Brushes – Great for weathering effects, creating subtle shading, and adding highlights.
Scenery Brushes – Designed for painting landscapes, buildings, and textured surfaces.
WWScenics stocks a wide selection of brushes, ensuring you get the best results when working with acrylic paint or other finishes.
Using Wet Palettes for Model Railway Painting
A wet palette is an essential tool for keeping acrylic paint fresh and workable for extended periods. It prevents drying too quickly, allowing smoother blending and more consistent colours when working on detailed railway models.
By using a wet palette, you can maintain the right consistency in your paints, making it easier to apply even coats and fine details. This tool is especially useful for airbrushing techniques and precise brushwork on locomotives, scenery, and figurines.
Creating Realistic Weathering Effects with Acrylic Paints and Brushes
Weathering is key to adding realism to your model railway. These techniques help create a worn, lived-in look:
Dry Brushing – Lightly applying paint to highlight raised surfaces.
Washes – Thinned paints that add depth to crevices.
Sponging – Creating chipped paint effects for a weathered look.
Layering – Building up colours gradually for natural wear.
Using WWScenics’ range of matt acrylic paints and specialized tools, you can recreate the realistic wear seen on real railway stock.

Answer...Unfortunately, we do not sell different sized sieve heads for the Micro Applicator. Only the Pro Grand Applicator comes with three different sized sieve heads.
Here are some key things for you to check when applying static grass using our applicator:
Use a powerful brand-new battery (PP3 9V battery).
Do not fill the hopper with too much grass, as the grass needs to have space to move.
Only apply a smear of basing glue on the required area and make sure to apply the basing grass before it dries. Room temperature can affect this.
Do not apply too much basing grass to the area. If you cover the basing glue with too much grass it will not stand but go flat.
Once you have applied the basing grass and cannot see the basing glue anymore, add some layering spray before applying the layering grass.
Make sure the crocodile clip is near the applicator's head when applying the grass. You do not need to put a nail or screw into your model.
Click-and-Collect is not yet available. However, you can still place an order and collect it by contacting us at customerservice@wwscenics.com
