WWScenics Pro Grass Applicators Explained

WWScenics is the only company that produce a range of static grass applicators. In this article Martyn explains what they can be used for, and which one is the correct one for you the modeller.

The Pro Grass Micro

The Pro Grass Micro

This was our second applicator we developed. Designed to be our entry level, all-rounder applicator. It comes with the single medium mesh head, which can be used with our 2mm static grass up to our 6mm static grass range.

Used with our Pro Grass Layering System, The Micro is definitely the Applicator you would want as a beginner. It is easy to use, just load the hopper ¼ full and switch it on. Then, hold the crocodile close to the hopper and apply the grass to the glue.

To test that the Pro Grass Micro is working. Switch on the unit and dangle the crocodile clip into the hopper about 1-2mm away, making sure you are holding the wire away from the clip. If you get a blue spark from the plate to the clip, then the Micro is working.

The Pro Grass Grand

Pro Grass Grand

The Pro Grass Grand is the first and grandad of the applicator range. It has been designed to handle all our range of grasses. Easy to use it can be for the beginner right up to the professional model builders, prop designers, motor trade and even taxidermists.

Used with the Pro Grass Layering System the Grand is large enough to do the biggest of models. It comes with a fine mesh head, medium mesh head and large mesh head. Which can do from our 0.5mm snow static grass all the way up to our 12mm static grass. Fill the hopper ½ full, switch it on. Hold the crocodile close to the hopper and apply the grass to the glue. For the larger grass move the hopper slightly higher from the model.

To test that the Pro Grass Grand is working. Switch on the unit, dangle the crocodile clip into the hopper about 1-2mm away. Making sure you are holding the wire away from the clip. If you get a blue spark from the plate to the clip, then the Grand is working.

The Pro Grass Precision

The Pro Grass Precision was designed after Martyn listened to the feedback from customers. They wanted an applicator to get into all the nooks and cranny’s. Between buildings, down sidings, layering static grass along the tracks. The little hopper is great to getting into those hard to get to places. Easily doing from 1mm static grass up to 6mm, yes, 6mm static grass.

The precision is designed to do the smallest of detail. The key is not to over fill the hopper, just a pinch will do. Remember you’re not going to do you’re whole model, layout or diorama with it, hold the handle in one hand and gently tap the hopper with the other hand. Once all the static grass is electrified, it will start to come out and stand up in your modelling glue.

To test that the Pro Grass Precision is working. Take the hopper off the end of the handle. Hold the handle in one hand, switch the unit on then hold the crocodile clip about 1mm to 2mm away from the bolt head. Do not hold the crocodile clip hold the cable further back. If you get a blue spark from the plate to the clip, then the Precision is working.

The Pro Grass Detailer

The detailer is Martyn’s favourite applicator. The Pro Grass detailer has been designed to do the job the Pro Grass Precision can do, but also a little bit of what the Pro Grass Micro can do. Although if you do have a large model, layout or diorama to do, we still recommend the Pro Grass Micro.

The Pro Grass Detailer comes with a small precision hopper and a larger hopper. You can do those hard to reach areas with the smaller hopper, yet still cover a larger area with the bigger hopper. Easily doing from 1mm to 6mm, this hand held applicator will make those smaller areas come to life with great results. To test that the Pro Grass Detailer is working. Take the hopper off the end of the handle. Hold the handle in one hand, switch the unit on then hold the crocodile clip about 1mm to 2mm away from the bolt head. Do not hold the crocodile clip hold the cable further back. If you get a blue spark from the plate to the clip, then the Detailer is working.

The Pro Grass N Gauge Micro

The Pro Grass N Gauge Micro

The Pro Grass N Gauge Micro was designed because of the feedback Martyn had from customers. The N Gauge Micro comes with the single fine mesh head, which can be used with our 1mm and 2mm N gauge static grass.

Used with our Pro Grass Layering System, The N Gauge Micro is defiantly the Applicator you would want as a beginner. It is easy to use, just load the hopper ¼ full, switch it on. Hold the crocodile close to the hopper and apply the grass to the glue. To test that the Pro Grass N Gauge Micro is working. Switch on the unit, dangle the crocodile clip into the hopper about 1-2mm away. Making sure you are holding the wire away from the clip. If you get a blue spark from the plate to the clip, then the Micro is working.

The Pro Grass Box

The Pro Grass Box

The Pro Grass Box is a very unique static grass applicator. This is the tool that can make static grass tufts, creeping ivy on side of buildings and even trees. Whenever Martyn demonstrates this product, he always gets a reaction or a gasp, even a round of applause.

You load the plate with 1mm, up to 6mm static grass. Holding the crocodile clip above the model and switch the box on. Then watch as the grass sticks to all the glue in an even and compact way. Check out the video link.

Use it with the De-Baller to get rid of static balls. See Video Link

To test the Pro Grass Box is working. Hold the cable away from the crocodile clip, dangle the clip about 1mm to 2mm away from the plate and switch the Box on. If you get a blue spark from the plate, then you Pro Grass Box is working.
