Why Water Features Make a Difference
Adding a water feature to your model railway or diorama creates a natural focal point, making the scene feel more lifelike. Whether it’s a river, pond, or lake, incorporating model water adds depth and enhances the overall realism of your layout. The right water effects can transform a simple scene into something visually striking.
Model train water not only improves aesthetics but also contributes to storytelling. A quiet still water pond may suggest a peaceful countryside, while a flowing river with waves can add movement and excitement. No matter the style, using the best materials ensures your water feature looks as realistic as possible.
Different Ways to Create Water Effects
Creating realistic water in a model requires choosing the right materials. There are many methods, each with unique advantages. Some modelers experiment with different water kits, while others prefer traditional materials.
Glossy Matte Medium: Works well for shallow water effects but lacks the depth of more advanced materials.
“Magic Water” Kits: A popular water kit that mimics the transparency of still water but requires careful application.
Acrylic Gel or Paste: Great for making waves, ripples, or other textured surfaces.
Water Effects Kits: Pre-made kits designed for easy application, often used to create moving water or layered water effects.
Glossy Acrylic Varnish: Can be layered for deeper water, but may require multiple coats for the best surface finish.
White Glue: A basic method that can work for small water features, but it often dries cloudy.
Choosing the right water kit depends on the specific needs of your model. Some methods require sealing the surface, while others need multiple layers to achieve the correct depth and transparency.

For the most realistic water effects, WWScenics Clear Model Water is the ideal choice. It simplifies the process while producing a smooth, clear finish that enhances any layout. Unlike other products, it offers a self-leveling formula, reducing the risk of bubbles and uneven surfaces.
Easy to Apply: Can be used for pouring, dripping, or brushing onto any prepared surface.
Self-Leveling Properties: Ensures a smooth and natural water effect with minimal effort.
Dries Clear: No cloudy residue, achieving the most realistic water possible.
Our model water allows for flexibility. Whether you’re working with rivers, ponds, or lakes, it’s easy to build up layers to create deeper water with stunning clarity.
Ground Cover and Additional Effects
Achieving the perfect water feature goes beyond just the water effects—the surrounding elements are just as important. Using ground cover like sand, green foliage, or even fine plaster can enhance the realism of the edge of a pond or river. Adding various shades of acrylic paint or using gloss medium can help create natural depth in still water or moving water scenes.
For added texture, consider applying ground goop or a mixture of fine sand and paint to create a seamless transition between land and water surfaces. Paying attention to the details ensures that your model railway layout looks natural and immersive.
Easy Application for Stunning Results
Applying WWScenics Clear Model Water is a straightforward process. Start by sealing the surface to prevent leaks, then carefully pour or spread the liquid over the designated area. The water medium will naturally flow into place, settling into a smooth and even layer.
For deeper water effects, apply multiple layers, allowing each coat to dry before adding more. The final result is realistic water that enhances the depth and detail of your model railway or diorama. In just 24 hours, the water effects will fully cure, creating a durable, dries hard finish.

Answer...Unfortunately, we do not sell different sized sieve heads for the Micro Applicator. Only the Pro Grand Applicator comes with three different sized sieve heads.
Here are some key things for you to check when applying static grass using our applicator:
Use a powerful brand-new battery (PP3 9V battery).
Do not fill the hopper with too much grass, as the grass needs to have space to move.
Only apply a smear of basing glue on the required area and make sure to apply the basing grass before it dries. Room temperature can affect this.
Do not apply too much basing grass to the area. If you cover the basing glue with too much grass it will not stand but go flat.
Once you have applied the basing grass and cannot see the basing glue anymore, add some layering spray before applying the layering grass.
Make sure the crocodile clip is near the applicator's head when applying the grass. You do not need to put a nail or screw into your model.
Click-and-Collect is not yet available. However, you can still place an order and collect it by contacting us at customerservice@wwscenics.com
